Thanks for the new forum Karl. I had great success with shiitakes for a few years. Squirrels were my downfall. They ate the logs and all. For the past two years I’ve attempted wine caps with no luck. I also inoculated lions mane eleven months ago on totem logs. I want to try again but can’t decide on the type. I have become impatient though. It will be something that should fruit this fall. I’m considering making my own sawdust for the job. My native fungi are fast and aggressive. Shortly after wood is cut they start moving. Whatever sawdust I use will be boiled to get rid of the natives prior to inoculation.

Agreed. There are some pricey ones but I’m start with a 20 dollar model instead. I used to make wine and mead so I have a hygrometer. i wanted to try that but need enough liquid for it to float in.

Beside, PH is so last century. I’m buying a Brix meter this year. When my family wonders why my produce tastes better than theirs we’ll do a side by side with science!

I bought a sun tracking app for my phone. it’s amazing and completely ruined the way I do things. There are spots where I used to grow tomatoes that did pretty well. Now I know they only get four hours of direct sun in June. Two or three hours the rest of the summer. That was last season and I was unprepared for those result. I’ll have a better plan this year.

l’m always curious about my soil’s ph but not enough to check it. I’m afraid it’s going to be so acidic I will question my methods instead of just growing.
